Vice President Huang Kainan of Shandong University, Weihai led a delegation of the staff members from the Preparatory Office of SDU-ANU Joint Science College to Shanghai Jiao Tong University to conduct a research and detailed discussion concerning Chinese-foreign cooperative education on March 11. Secretary of Party Committee as well as Vice President of University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute Li Xinwan and Executive Director Song Liqun attended the discussion.
In discussion, Huang Kainan first talked about the preparation and construction of SDU-ANU Joint Science College. He pointed out that University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute had a long history and he hoped to learn from the rich and successful experience in operating the joint institute to lay a good foundation for developing SDU-ANU Joint Science College through close cooperation and communication. Li Xinwan and Song Liqun introduced respectively the development history, organization setup, building the teaching workforce and student management of the joint institute. Moreover, the two sides also had in-depth exchanges on issues like Party building, putting in place a sound framework in international joint-venture learning institution. During the visit, Huang Kainan and his suite made a first-hand investigation of the institute’s conditions and facilities.
University of Michigan-Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute is jointly established by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Michigan approved by China’s Ministry of Education in 2006 as an educational entity without corporate capacity. It has three undergraduate majors, namely mechanical engineering, electronics and computer engineering, materials science and engineering.
