On October 11, the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee of the SDU-ANU Joint Science College was held in Weihai. Academician Tian Gang, Vice Chairman of the 12th Central Committee of the China Democratic League and Chairman of the Chinese Mathematical Society and Academician Tang Tao, President of the United International College of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University attended the meeting in person. Academician Zheng Xiaojing, the former President and Party Secretary of Xidian University, Chen Shiyi, the Second President of Southern University of Science and Technology, Zhang Pingwen, Vice President of Peking University, Chen Zhiming, Academician of the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Academician Lu Xiyun, the University of Science and Technology of China attended the meeting via video. Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University, President of Shandong University, Weihai and Dean of the SDU-ANU Joint Science College were present at the meeting. Yin Zuosheng, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Shandong University, Weihai, presided over the meeting. The JSC leadership, directors of some relevant offices on campus as well as some JSC staff and student representatives attended the meeting.
In his speech, Liu Jianya expressed his heartfelt thanks and high respect to the academicians for their care and support of SDU development, and for guiding and helping the progress of the SDU-ANU Joint Science College. He said that with the support of all the academicians, the SDU-ANU Joint Science College would adhere to a global advanced educational philosophy, and by making full use of the strengths of the two world renowned universities in disciplines, scientific research and talent training, etc., vigorously develop the four basic disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology and create an excellent environment for education and scientific research so as to build the college into an example of high-level international joint-venture learning institutions.
Then Liu Jianya presented letters of appointment to Tian Gang and Tang Tao present at the meeting respectively.
Following the inaugural meeting, Academician Tang Tao presided over the first meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee of the SDU-ANU Joint Science College. At the meeting Prof. Lv Guangshi, Executive dean of JSC made a report on the development of the college, and the academicians reviewed the Measures for the Administration of Employing Teachers by SDU-ANU Joint Science College. President Liu Jianya and Party Secretary Yin Zuosheng both concluded that the committee members put forward good and candid opinions and suggestions which would guide and promote the high-quality development of the college.
