On 16 May, a welcome meeting was held at SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC) in honour of Prof. Zhao Cheng, a tenured Professor from Indiana State University. He has joined the college since May, 2023. Lv Guangshi, Executive Dean, hosted the meeting. The other college leaders as well as the heads of business affairs office and academic affairs office attended the meeting.
Lv Guangshi expressed warm welcome to Prof. Zhao on behalf of the college and then introduced briefly the college including its development history, enrolment, faculty, and talent cultivation. He said that Prof. Zhao’s joining as a full-time foreign professor will greatly contribute to raising talent cultivation quality, expanding and deepening international cooperation in scientific research, enhancing international atmosphere and promoting a high-quality development of the college. Vice deans Chang Xiaomei and Bai Ming made introductions about international affairs and academic affairs of the college respectively.
Prof. Zhao highly recognized the college’s achievements. He felt it was his honour and duty as a graduate from Shandong University coming back to his Alma Mater and joining JSC to play an actively role in and make contributions to the undergraduate teaching, international collaboration, academic research and other work in the college for cultivating talents with global competence.
Zhao Cheng graduated from Shandong University in 1983 with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and in 1987 with a master's degree in Operations Research. He obtained his Ph.D. at West Virginia University under the supervision of Prof. Hilton and Prof. Zhang Cunquan. Dr. Zhao spent two years conducting post-doctoral work at the University of Reading. He has been employed at Indiana State University since 21 August, 1995. He was promoted to Associate Professor in September 1999 and Professor in August 2005. He is tenured.
