JSC Students Participate in Campus Martial Arts Competition and Win Prizes

    On 15 December, 2023 the 2nd Martial Arts Competition was successfully held at the Basketball and Volleyball Gym, Shandong University, Weihai to promote fine traditional Chinese culture and engage more students in sports to enhance their physical and mental health. A team of 24 students representing Joint Science College competed at the competition.

This martial arts competition has comprised such disciplines as Elementary Changquan, Chinese traditional Wushu (martial arts) including Taijiquan (shadow boxing), Wing Chun, Shaolinquan (Shaolin-style boxing) and Nunchaku. Prior to the competition, the JSC participants practiced hard on basic skills through systematic training and preparation. In the individual events, their coordinated and coherent movements with combination of softness and hardness drew bursts of applause from both the judges and audience. In the team events, they demonstrated the beauty of Chinese martial arts incisively and vividly with vigorous posture and powerful strides. During the competition, the college volunteer students engaged in providing good service support in a cooperative and responsible manner. After intense competition, the JSC team won the second prize in the Elementary Changquan event. Sun Siyuan, a 2021 cohort student secured the third place in the men’s Chinese traditional Wushu, and Liu Yufan, a 2022 cohort student took the fifth place in the women’s Elementary Changquan event.


The competition served as a good platform for the JSC students to develop strong bodies and minds and improve communications and exchanges. The college will take it as an opportunity to further explore the essence of integrating the fine traditional Chinese culture into talent cultivation and new paths of sports education.
