Arthur Xu, Deputy Head of International Relations and Partnerships, ANU College of Science Visits SDU-ANU Joint Science College

   On the afternoon of 27 February, Mr. Arthur Xu, Deputy Head, International Relations and Partnerships - STEMM, ANU College of Science; ANU College of Health & Medicine; ANU College of Computing, Engineering & Cybernetics visited SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC). The JSC leadership had a meeting with him together with a programme manager from the International Office, Shandong University, Weihai. The meeting was chaired by Sun Pengcheng, Party Dean, JSC.

   Sun Pengcheng first expressed a warm welcome to Arthur Xu on behalf of JSC. Then he introduced the college’s current development status, education conditions being upgraded and prospects in detail and the university’s science, engineering and medical disciplines briefly. He said that JSC has already completed a full educational cycle and received recognition and affirmation for the high-quality talents within the university and from all walks of life. The significant advantages of the cooperative education between Shandong University (SDU) and Australian National University (ANU) are gradually achieved.

   Arthur XU expressed his thanks to the college for the ongoing support to the ANU teaching staff while working in JSC and then elaborated on the teaching plans in 2024. He said that ANU has paid high attention to both the college and students’ development. He also reported on the first group of JSC students at ANU who performed excellently with their GPA far exceeding the average level of the other ANU students, which proves to be remarkable achievement of the joint education in talent cultivation.

   Chang Xiaomei, Vice dean and Wang Wei, Deputy Party Dean proposed their ideas on launching a short-term program for JSC students visiting ANU and how to manage the students studying at ANU. Both sides discussed matters like JSC operation and management and the teachers and students’ exchange between SDU and ANU. They agreed to promote deeper communication, broader cooperation and more quality resource introduction on the basis of the previous good collaboration so as to enhance jointly talent cultivation with global competence and high-quality development of the Chinese-foreign cooperative education.
