Upcoming ANU Orientation Week for JSCers

Orientation Week (O’ Week) is the first week of a new semester in Australian universities, acquainting freshmen with the campus, other students and upcoming studies, and providing them with access to information on campus services, course advice, skills development and life, etc. in order to ensure them necessary information and support for the new semester.

In July, the students from Shandong University (SDU) are about to embark on their two-year academic journey in the Australian National University (ANU). Let’s see what are included in this exclusive O' Week for them organised by ANU College of Science and share the exotic Australian culture with the JSCers.


I

18 July, Monday

12:00-14:00

Campus Tour

Location: Kambri Bridge

Arthur and Xingshuo, a senior student, will show around the whole campus and its surroundings to help the JSCers get to know the facilities for daily necessities.

19 July, Tuesday

Welcoming Activities

Location: Kambri Cinema, Cultural Centre, Building #153



2.1

9:30 – 10:00

Meeting with the Deans and Directors

The JSCers will have a face-to-face communication with Prof. Kiaran Kirk, Dean of ANU College of Science and the directors of the four research schools, ANU College of Science.



2.2

10:00 – 10:30

Morning Tea

While enjoying the morning tea, the JSCers can communicate with their classmates and teachers from ANU about the upcoming studies.



2.3

10:30 – 11:30

General Introduction

Tips for studying and living at ANU will be given to help the JSCers fit into the English learning environment better. Besides, they will meet with the college faculty and staff members who will provide help and support to them in their life and study at ANU.



2.4

12:00-13:00

Course Introduction

Location: W K Hancock Building - West Wing, Building #43, Level 2

The JSCers will meet with the heads of their majors from ANU to know about the major courses and make their own studying plans that suit their academic interests and development.

3.1

10:00-11:00

Library Tour Led by Libbie

    As Director of Student Affairs, ANU College of Science, Libbie works to ensure the students the best studying and living experience at ANU. She will lead the JSCers to visit ANU’s library to know about the facilities and services inside.



3.2

11:00 -12:00

Academic Skills Workshop

The ANU Academic Skill Centre is aimed to develop the students’ key academic skills and communication strategies from which they will get life-long benefits.



3.3

16:30-17:00

Student Card Application

Location: Kambri, Building 154, Shop 14

The ANU student card is the official identification with which the students can have access to a series of services on campus, including university library, printing, computer rooms and exam rooms. They can also get discounts on public transport and cinemas.

24 July, Sunday

One-day Tour in Canberra

Assembling Place: Davey Lodge

Led by the tour guide, the JSCers will visit famous tourist attractions in Canberra, including the Parliament House, Royal Mint, National Gallery of Australia, Australian War Memorial.
