The 5th Coffee Time in 2023—“Senior Students’ Experience Sharing” (No. 20) Is Held

On 14 June, the 5th Coffee Time activity in 2023, Senior Students’ Experience Sharing was held in Room 107, Dianzi Building in order to help the 2020 cohort students who are going to ANU for further study with planning for their life and study abroad. Four of the 2019 JSC students studying in ANU were invited to attend and share their successful experience online. Prof. Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean, JSC and Wang Wei, Deputy Party Dean, JSC were present. All the 2020 cohort students participated both online and offline.

During the session, the four JSC senior students in ANU shared their recent scientific research and future plans based on their own personal experience one by one. Wang Yucheng, a biology major student, looked back on the challenges and obstacles he faced with when arriving in Australia due to the cultural differences. He encouraged the students to change their way of thinking and adapt themselves to the new surroundings as soon as possible. Yang Wenkai, a student of applied physics major talked about choosing elective courses and application for master degree programme. He reminded them of some matters they need to pay attention to in the application, and suggested that they keep a balance between study and rest and make plans properly. Liu Ruhan, a chemistry major student introduced in a light and humours way the summer courses, laboratories and tutors at ANU. He suggested they choose their research directions and tutors carefully to do experiments and gain results. Wang Zhining, a mathematics major student shared in detail his own experience in the joint programme, assessment method and choosing summer courses etc. He hoped that the students could expand their horizons, keep improving themselves and try to find a balance between academic interests and future development. Then they all answered questions from the audience patiently. The activity went on in a lively atmosphere.

Wang Wei closed the session by thanking the four students for their sharing. She conveyed her congratulations to the 2019 JSC students in ANU on their accomplishments. Besides, she encouraged the 2020 cohort students to follow the excellent senior students’ examples and continue to pursue their dreams for better achievements. Finally, she wished all the students an even more wonderful life at ANU and more prosperous future.

As one of the recent series of pre-departure training organised by the college, this activity offered scientific and practical guidance to the students on studying abroad. It is aimed to enhance the students’ understanding of overseas study and help them make a plan with a clear goal for their future academic and career development.
