To help the students learn more about overseas students’ life in advance so as to better adapt to studying abroad in near future, Jia Xiaoyun from Institute of Governance, Shandong University was invited to give a lecture entitled “Psychological Adaptation and Adjustment before and after Studying Abroad” in Room 107, Dianzi Building on the morning of 11 December.
First of all, Jia Xiaoyun listed difficulties and challenges arising from changes in surroundings after going abroad and causes of psychological stress and anxiety while studying abroad based on her own personal experiences of studying and working abroad. Then, she elaborated ways to reduce stress and anxiety with examples, focusing on four proactive self-help methods when dealing with psychological problems. In Q & A session, she answered patiently the students’ questions concerning study, accommodation and emotional issues while studying abroad.
This lecture has helped the students gain a clearer understanding of study and life abroad and better cope with possible difficulties and challenges in their future overseas studies. The college will continue to organise series of activities with different themes of studying abroad to improve effectiveness of the cooperative education with the Australian National University.
