On 26 November, a student forum on innovation and entrepreneurship themed Forging Ahead to Serve the Country by Scientific Research was held in R. 301, Dianzi Building to promote the spirit of innovation and inspire the young students to engage in innovative and entrepreneurial projects to enhance their scientific research capabilities. Dr. Wu Ruijia from the School of Law, Shandong University, Weihai was invited to give a keynote talk at the forum. Cao Rui, an excellent student representative currently studying at ANU, shared his experience online. Counselors Wei Fulin, Gao Caixia and Shen Yuling, as well as student representatives Liu Dun, Wang Shiqi, Zhang Tongtong and Huang Wenbo participated in the forum together with the 2023 cohort students.
In his talk Wu Ruijia introduced major differences between “Challenge Cup”, known as the “Olympics” of technological innovation to contemporary Chinese university students and “Internet+”, China International College Students' “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, in terms of topic selection strategy and track classification, and he explained vividly both competition processes and points for attention based on his own competition experience. Following him, Cao Rui shared his experience of participating in the National University Student Social Practice and Science Contest on Energy Saving and Emission Reduction (Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and International Group) based on his own study and research experience at ANU, a good example of the benefits of the college’s cooperative education with ANU. He encouraged the students to find actively their own research directions and make the most of the college’s advantage so as to make great achievements in scientific research.
Students from Academic Innovation Section of CYL, JSC Committee and Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Association introduced respectively the major innovation and entrepreneurship competitions like “Internet+” and “Challenge Cup” and disciplinary competitions including China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, highlighting the functions and instructions of the college’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Platform. Liu Dun, Wang Shiqi, Zhang Tongtong, and Huang Wenbo shared one by one their valuable insights and experiences of competing in Mathematical Contest in Modeling, Energy Saving and Emission Reduction Competition, “Internet+” and National Physics Experiment Competition for College Students and applying for an accredited research project for undergraduates. They inspired the 2023 cohort students to take the initiative to study and strive for progress.
In his concluding remarks, Wei Fulin hoped that all the participating students would cherish their opportunities to seek guidance from the teachers and seniors with an open mind so as to set themselves up for a promising start to their academic and research path at the university. He urged all the freshmen present to keep abreast of State and public affairs and the latest global trends, take a serious attitude to study and understanding of the historical mission of speeding up work to build China's strength in education, science and technology, and cultivating a quality workforce in a new era and on a new journey, keep their feet on the ground and forge ahead with perseverance to serve the country by scientific research.
Only those who innovate can grow stronger and prevail against the backdrop of a fierce competition. This forum has helped the students gain a deeper understanding of various disciplinary competitions and scientific research innovation projects, which will lay a good foundation for them to improve their quality of scientific and technological innovation. It will provide guidance for the students to make full use of the advantages of the cooperative education with a foreign partner and continuously enhance their academic and research capacities. Furthermore, it has reinforced the foundation for the college work on all-round education.
