On the evening of March 19th, the 6th Scientific Research Causerie was held by Joint Science College (JSC) in R. 107, Songxin Building to promote academic exchanges between ANU teachers and JSC students and foster a stronger atmosphere of research and innovation. The event was attended by ANU biology teaching team, Marcin Robert Adamski and his teaching assistants. Ma Wenxuan, 2023 cohort student hosted the event.

The theme of this session was "Start Scientific Research from scratch". Marcin Robert Adamski and three other faculty members shared their personal experiences in research and academic growth, discussing how to identify the right research focus and direction based on one's own academic interests. They encouraged students to engage in broad information searches, stay updated on the cutting-edge developments in their fields, and emphasized the importance of collaboration and communication in scientific innovation.

During the Chanhua (thread-wrapped floral ornament) experience session, Yang Jialin, a 2023 Biology student, gave an English presentation, using pictures and videos to introduce attendees to the history, origin, cultural significance, crafting techniques, and uses of the traditional Chinese handcraft Chanhuawrapping flowers with colorful thread. Then, Chinese and Australian teachers and students used their imagination and creativity to design and create their own works, experiencing the charm of Chinese traditional crafts up close while deepening communication and friendship.

This event has not only increased students' interest and ability to engage in scientific research but strengthened the bonds between Chinese students and Australian teachers through interaction and collaboration. Future series of activities will continue to broaden students' perspectives and help them explore suitable paths for their own academic growth.
