On December 2, 2021, the 6th Coffee Time Academic and Cultural Exchange event in its autumn series was held by SDU-ANU Joint Science College in the Reading Room, Dianzi Building. The guests invited are Professor Penny Brothers, Director of ANU Research School of Chemistry, Associate Professor Alexey M. Glushenkov, also from ANU Research School of Chemistry, and Professor Bai Ming, Vice Dean of SDU-ANU Joint Science College. Teachers from JSC Yu Xiaolong, Wang Chun, Zhou Meijuan, and Yan Qiao (onlin) were present, together with more than 30 juniors and sophomores of chemistry major. Besides, Mr. Jay Poria, Manager of International Relations and Partnerships and Mr. Arthur Xu, Regional manager of International Relations and Partnerships from ANU College of Science joined in the event online. The event was co-chaired by Professor Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean of SDU-ANU Joint Science College, and Ms. Zhou Junxia, head of the Academic English Group.
The event started with the hostesses’ introduction to the guests and warm welcoming words to all the participants and was then followed by the active interaction between the professors and the chemistry students on the students’ questions about their chemistry course, ideas of their academic goals, future career plans as well as Australian festivals and other cultural aspects.
This event is aimed to provide the JSC young scholars with opportunities to have in-depth exchanges and discussions with ANU professors on such issues as data research in the field of chemistry, and to provide the JSC students with support in their learning progress and future development. It will also encourage the students to study harder their major courses and have a broadened view on their academic development, and meanwhile help them with a better understanding of both Chinese and Australian cultures.
