Light is an inseparable "life partner". The "right to light" plays an important role in people's daily life. However, it is difficult for every one to enjoy quality lighting in ordinary life due to the limitation of working cost, the conflict between the explosive technological development in lighting and the sluggish formulation of corresponding specifications, the superimposed effects of a variety of newly-produced lighting facilities and the complicated correlation of the lighting elements difficult to quantify to people’s health.
With the aim of finding a proper angle for the research project and hoping to contribute to the popular science mission of China's illumination engineering, the team “Search for Light” conducted this social practice in winter.
The group members discussed the topic with the tutor, Mr. Du Guiqiang on January 12, 2020. Mr. Du stressed the importance of grasping the focus of the project and analysed the relationship between commercialization and current technology. He suggested that the team should narrow down the research subject and set a long-term goal on developing an AI instrument. After the discussion, the team members acted immediately and discussed further the unclear points online and achieved significant progress. In addition, they sorted out problems they were faced with, suggested by the tutor, and managed to contact some distinguished professors in prestigious universities known for architecture.
The research road for the team “Search for Light” was bumpy. They were totally perplexed at the stage of searching for data; they got no where in discussion with the tutor; they changed research topics frequently, etc. But in the end, they made clear the research subject and over a month’s unceasing endeavour was a very rewarding experience.
