On the afternoon of March 3rd, SDU-ANU Joint Science College held a discussion on English teaching methods as a way to strengthen the professional ethics of the teachers in the reading room, Dianzi building. Prof. Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean of JSC presided over the meeting, and the whole team of academic English course attended.
Prof. Chang shared her own teaching experience and illustrated the importance and methods of such issues concerning teaching as lesson planning, classroom design, classroom management and teaching style for cultivating students’ quality, exerting teachers’ positive influence and enhancing students’ learning effectiveness in class. She said that making a good lesson plan was the first step to improving classroom quality. Teachers should be devoted to the whole process of teaching rigorously and patiently, get close to students and employ flexible teaching methods to enhance the classroom efficiency and effectiveness and help students master knowledge gradually. She stressed that as participants in a project of teaching reform, the teachers of the academic English course were supposed to be more innovative and updated with professional knowledge and methods. They should heighten their sense of responsibility and strengthen their professional ethics to set a good example for the students. At the meeting, Prof. Chang also answered the questions from the English teachers concerning difficulties and confusions from their class and their interactions with the students.
The discussion is helpful to improving the professional skills and language proficiency of the English teachers. It is also one of the measures JSC has taken to strengthen professional ethics of the teachers.
