On the evening of 23 April 2022, SDU-ANU Joint Science College held an online English salon on the theme of "Experiencing World Online--Spring Journey Tour". Professor Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean of JSC in charge of international affairs, and Professor Ming Bai, Vice Dean of JSC in charge of academic affairs, attended the event. The English salon was hosted by Zhou Junxia, Deputy Director of AEMG Shandong University (Weihai) Branch, and all the Chinese and foreign teachers of the academic English faculty and over 100 students attended online.
The online salon lasting for an hour and a half offered an opportunity for the students to experience the different yet colorful regional cultures in Australia via virtual reality, aerial video, and other technical software, allowing them to tour around Australia on this “world travel bus” without leaving home. While creating a positive atmosphere for fun and study, it will also provide guidance and direction for them as they embark on their study and life abroad.
The event began with an opening speech by Professor Chang. In her speech, she shared her personal experiences and feelings about studying and living abroad, enabling the students to experience the charm of different cultures and the importance of experiencing and embracing cultural diversity. Afterward, four Chinese and foreign teachers shared their knowledge and experiences of studying and living abroad from "accommodation", "transportation", "learning" and "etiquette". The whole process was highly interactive. The students actively commented and asked questions about their preferred universities.
This English salon has enabled the students to improve their understanding of the English culture and experience cultural diversity. They can travel on the "cloud" while being on campus, and familiarize themselves with all aspects of overseas life, which will help them adapt to the foreign customs and integrate themselves into new communities quickly and achieve a natural transition in their future overseas studies and life.
