On 17 March, Arthur Xu, Deputy Head of International Relations and Partnerships, ANU College of Science visited SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC) and had a discussion with the college leadership team and the relevant staff from the International Office of Shandong University, Weihai. Lv Guangshi, Executive Dean of JSC chaired the meeting.
Lv Guangshi first expressed his warm welcome to Arthur Xu and then introduced the general development of the college, management, faculty and staff, enrolment quality and college conditions in detail. He said that in the years of cooperation, Australian National University (ANU) has provided the college with much support and help, esp. in the aspects of enrolment promotion, teaching and extracurricular activities. He hoped that the two partners will further enhance the collaboration in teaching and research to achieve a win-win development.
Liang Fengjun, the Party dean, talked about expanding the cultural exchanges between the two partners and enhancing the cooperation in teaching and scientific research. He said that JSC is to upgrade the infrastructure of the college and make full preparations for the assessment of the college as a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution by China’s Ministry of Education so as to promote the upgrade of the college in quality.
Vice deans Chang Xiaomei and Bai Ming and Deputy Party Dean Wang Wei discussed matters like the mutual exchange and cooperation, teaching management in the pandemic period, co-building the courses and management of the students in the joint programme.
Arthur Xu expressed his thanks to the college for fully supporting the cooperative educational work and gave full recognition to the education quality. He told about life and study of the first group of JSC students in ANU and spoke highly of their academic achievement, communication ability and overall quality. Besides, he put forward his suggestions on creating an international atmosphere in the college. He expressed his hopes of strengthening the mutual exchanges between the two partners to pull closer the collaboration in teaching and scientific research, broaden the channels for the students to study in ANU, and promote the cooperative development into a new height.
It is the first time for JSC and ANU to have a deep face-to-face discussion in the post-pandemic period. JSC will take it as an opportunity to deepen the coordination and cooperation with ANU on the basis of the previous years of cooperation to improve the cultivation of world-class talents, exchange of high-level faculty staff and joint scientific research so as to promote high-quality development for both partners and co-write a new chapter in Sino-foreign cooperative education.
