From 8 to 9 May, the SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC) leadership team led by Lv Guangshi, Executive Dean, and Liang Fengjun, Party Dean, visited Research Centre for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, School of Life Sciences and Institute of Frontier and Interdisciplinary Science on Qingdao Campus for an in-depth research and study to fully implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and Shandong University’s strategy of integrated development, bolster cooperation with the schools and institutes for joint building and sharing of education resources to improve the ability to nurture talents of the college. The team also included vice deans Chang Xiaomei and Bai Ming, as well as other staff of the college.
At Research Centre for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, Zhao Yongxin, executive deputy director, showed the team members infrastructural facilities around the centre before introducing the platform building, faculty, talent cultivation and international collaboration, etc. Then Lv Guangshi introduced JSC’s development history, two cultivation models and enrolment, etc. The two sides had friendly exchanges of views on such issues as teaching resource sharing, student research and innovation projects, academic lectures and international collaboration. Both agreed on establishing normalised cooperative mechanism to nurture higher-quality talents.
At School of Life Sciences, the visiting team had a productive exchange of views with Party Dean Wang Jilei, vice deans Zhang Wei and Bai Mingyi, and deputy Party deans Zhang Panpan and Li Hanye, and reached extensive consensus on issues like resource sharing of internship bases, course teaching, cultivation of students’ innovative ability, and expanding international collaboration. Both sides expressed willingness to give full play to their own advantages, make good plans and dovetail with each other proactively to promote the implementation of the measures for win-win cooperation.
At Institute of Frontier and Interdisciplinary Science, the delegation met with Party Dean Zhao Gang, Vice Dean Deng Weiqiao, Deputy Party Dean Zhang Yang and teacher representatives. After introductions to the institute and the college by Party Dean Zhao Gang and Executive Dean Lv Guangshi respectively, the participants had a broad discussion on issues such as establishment of courses taught in English or bilingually, graduation-project supervision, summer school courses and lectures, joint research, holding international symposia. Both sides agreed to make efforts to promote mutual communication and cooperation and coordinated development.
This research and study is significant and productive. JSC has combined the education campaign with the college’s reform aiming to explore the mechanism of an integrated development with other schools and institutes on the three campuses offering programmes in related disciplines for co-building and sharing educational resources and mutual promotion.
