On the morning of 29 August, the JSC working team of foreign affairs received the 2nd training in R. 508 Dianzi building for enhancing the team members’ professional quality and capabilities and upgrading the college’s international work. Mr. Zhang Jiahao in charge of Chinese-Australian cooperative education programmes from International Office, SDUW was invited to give a lecture on foreign affairs work. Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean, JSC attended in person and made remarks. All the team members attended the training.
Zhang Jiahao focused mainly on three aspects, Chinese-foreign cooperative education, comprehensive quality of foreign affairs staff and reception. He detailed the definition and classification of Chinese-foreign cooperative education and differences between it and other education modes concerning foreign partners. He said that Chinese-foreign cooperative education has become an important means of improving the quality of higher education and developing world-class universities and disciplines. He introduced Shandong University’s current situation and strategic planning of Chinese-foreign cooperative education. He stressed that foreign affairs work is systematic and complicated since a slight change in one part may affect the whole situation. Foreign affairs staff are required to enhance their political acuity and discernment to safeguard our national security and interests. They should also enhance their management and service awareness to do the work meticulously with flexibility and passion. Besides, he shared general rules and practices of receiving foreign guests such as seating, presenting gifts, etc. In the end, he said that good foreign affairs staff need abundant knowledge, experience accumulation and good mentality. Only by keeping learning and working hard can they build ability and become competent professionals.
Chang Xiaomei put forward three requirements to the team members in her conclusion. First, they will implement Xi Jinping thought on diplomacy of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era and bear in mind the country's most fundamental interests. Second, they should raise the awareness of risk and prevention and make a devotion to promoting the JSC’s international cooperation and communication. Third, they should enhance their readiness to shoulder responsibility, build their professional knowledge, and work diligently to strengthen their ability to serve the development of the college.
Then the team members asked questions based on their actual work experiences which Zhang Jiahao answered in detail. They all thought the training session was held in time. It is informative, practical and workable. They will take this training as an opportunity to improve their work with baisc knowledge, discipline and etiquette of foreign affairs and engage themselves in the work with sense of duty, enthusiasm and a down-to-earth work style.
