On September 19, Joint Science College (JSC) successfully held a seminar themed on studying and working in Australia, as well as STEM career planning, as part of the ‘Leap into ANU’ International Exchange Month series. The session was delivered online by Meggan Pigram (Employer Engagement Officer) and Jenny Tan (Careers Consultant) from ANU professional employment consulting team. Over 100 students, including those away at ANU, participated in the event online and offline. The event was hosted by Arthur Xu, Deputy Manager, International Relations and Partnerships – STEMM, ANU College of Science.
During the lecture, the two speakers first introduced the team members and their roles, and then engaged with students through online quizzes to discuss the challenges and opportunities of starting a career in Australia, as well as topics related to the students’ areas of interest and desired positions. Jenny emphasized that the consulting team will provide support from the moment students enroll, helping them identify their interests and offering various resources such as internship programs, enterprise visits, and workshops to equip students with the skills needed for the workplace. Meggan shared insights on the employment status and development prospects for science graduates in Australia and listed specific career paths and job-hunting channels for majors in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
In Q & A session, the guests answered in patience the students’ questions regarding average salary in Australia, work visa application, employment consultation, career prospects, etc. They advised students to start career planning at an early stage, take full advantage of the employment services platform that ANU has to offer, explore career path, and continuously enhance their professional skills.
This seminar is part of the 'Leap to ANU' International Exchange Month series, launched to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shandong University, Weihai campus. It aims to help students expand their overseas employment consultation channels, enhance their career planning abilities, and clarify their future employment directions. This activity also aids students in smoothly transitioning from campus to the workplace and lays a solid foundation for promoting high-quality and full employment for future graduates of the college.
