On the evening of September 19th, the English dubbing contest was successfully and jointly held by the Youth League Committee of SDU, Weihai, ANU College of Science, and Joint Science College (JSC) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Weihai campus. Arthur Xu, Deputy Manager, and Sarah Yue, Regional Manager (North Asia), International Relations and Partnerships, ANU College of Science and relevant experts from the campus were invited as the judges. Wang Wei, Deputy Party Dean, JSC attended the event and delivered the opening speech.

The competition attracted many enthusiastic student participants from different colleges on campus, with a total of 19 teams signing up for the match. After a comprehensive evaluation, 10 teams advanced to the offline final round. Their performances ranged from the classic Chinese TV serial Journey to the West to the European fairy tale Cinderella, from the sisterly bond between Elsa and Anna in Frozen to the friendship between Judy and Nick in Zootopia, and from the emotional journey in Inside Out to the inspirational courtroom drama in Legally Blonde. Each team was well-prepared and contestants demonstrated clear and fluent pronunciation and good teamwork. They vividly brought characters to life through their voices and recreated iconic scenes with their passion and linguistic expressiveness. The atmosphere was lively and filled with applause. This competition not only showcased the unique charm of voice acting but provided a valuable opportunity for contestants to enhance their English expression and cross-cultural communication skills.



During the evaluation, Associate Professor Chen Huaikai, School of Translation Studies, SDUW noted that the student participants had showed their solid language skills and enthusiasm in recreating classic film works. He encouraged the students to enjoy the competition process, maintain their curiosity to explore, and aim for greater achievements in their future endeavors. In the end, after the scoring, Wu Shengping was awarded the first prize, while two teams led by Yang Jieni and Teng Feitongtong received second prizes. Teams of Wang Haotian, Huang Ziyang, and Xu Yukun were awarded third prizes, and another four teams of Li Xinyue, Xu Yaxuan, Pang Yutong, and Wang Zihao received excellence awards.

This contest aims to build a bridge for cross-cultural communication through the art of voice acting, improve students’ understanding of different cultures while they enjoying the fun of English dubbing, and provide a platform for students who are passionate about voice acting and language to express themselves and develop skills.
