SDU-ANU Joint Science College held Open Day on Jinan Central Campus and Weihai Campus synchronously on June 22nd and 23rd, 2019. More than one hundred students and their parents from across China attended the event. SDU Deputy Party Secretary, Tong Xinghua was present at the venue and expressed his gratitude to the leaders and staff from ANU for their on-site support. He also hoped that the candidates from across China would choose SDU as their dream university.
This event consisted of three sessions, introduction to the college, class demonstration and visiting campus. Jiang Baochen, Dean of College of International Education, introduced generally the Chinese-foreign cooperation in higher education and JSC, the characteristics of the four undergraduate majors offered, mathematics and applied mathematics, applied physics, applied chemistry and biological science, and the difference between the “4+0” and “3+2” models, etc. Then Prof. Tim Senden, Director of ANU Research School of Physics and Engineering, gave a detailed introduction to ANU including the specialty setting up, the faculty and the disciplinary strengths. In class demonstration session, Prof. Joseph Hope, Associate Director (Education) of ANU Research School of Physics and Engineering, Sasha Mikheyev, Associate Dean of ANU College of Science, Penny Brothers, Director of ANU Research School of Chemistry and Prof. Murray Batchelor of ANU Research School of Mathematics gave lectures in physics, biology, chemistry and mathematics respectively to the candidates and their parents present. The professors used various methods like charts and Q&A to activate class atmosphere and encouraged the listeners to get involved actively in the class activities. On the Open Day in Weihai, the candidates and their parents paid a visit to the library and University History Museum led by the campus ambassadors in blue robe.
This event is aimed to help the graduating students and their parents to gain a deeper understanding of the university and the college so as to attract more top students to join JSC.
