On the morning of July 31st, SDU-ANU Joint Science College held the online Open Day in the Academic Exchange Centre, SDUW. This event was aimed to demonstrate JSC’s excellent teaching resources, advanced educational style and feature and strengthen the communication between the college and the candidates’ parents. The leaders from JSC, Party Dean Shan Bingbo, Prof. Lv Guangshi, Executive Dean, Deputy Party Dean Fan Qixue, Prof. Chang Xiaomei and Prof. Bai Ming, the Vice Deans were present at the venue. Prof. Kiaran Kirk, Dean, Associate Prof. Sasha Mikheyev, Associate Dean (International) and other professors of ANU College of Science attended the event online. It was live streamed via Xinhua News Agency and telecasted via Weihai Evening News and Bilibili. The total number of viewers exceeded 13,000.
Shan Bingbo and Prof. Kiaran Kirk gave opening speeches first, introducing the general information of their own college respectively. Then Prof. Lv Guangshi and A/Prof. Sasha Mikheyev detailed the advantages and teaching characteristics of JSC and ANU College of Science separately. After that, four professors of ANU College of Science were connected to give detailed introductions online via video to the four subjects offered by JSC respectively, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Applied Chemistry and Biological Science. To demonstrate their progress and achievements videos were played in which some sophomores shared their learning and living experiences. Some parents also shared their experiences and comments on their children’s one-year study in JSC via video. In the Q&A session, Prof. Lv Guangshi, Fan Qixue, and Prof. Bai Ming answered questions in detail by the candidates and their parents.
This online event has helped the candidates have a deeper understanding of the disciplinary advantages and teaching characteristics so that they will have an even broader view and a better thought out plan of their future professional development and the prospects in subject teaching and learning. It has also demonstrated to their parents and people in general the college’s excellent teaching resources, the high professional level of the teachers, advanced educational concept and bright future. Besides, It has enhanced the communication and exchange, interaction and cooperation among the students, parents, colleges and two universities of SDU and ANU. It will not only serve as a stimulus to the candidates’ application to JSC, but has also showed the spirit of SDU and a good image of JSC. It will play an important role in creating a new model of talent cultivation in future and a new height of Chinese-foreign cooperative education by JSC.
