SDU-ANU Joint Science College Open Day was successfully held in Linglong Lecture Hall on July 3, 2021. Prof. Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University, President of Shandong University, Weihai and Dean of JSC, Shan Bingbo, Party Dean of JSC, Prof. Lv Guangshi, Excecutive Dean of JSC, Prof. Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean of JSC, Fan Qixue, Deputy Party Dean of JSC, Prof. Bai Ming, Vice Dean of JSC, Prof. Sally Wheeler, Deputy Vice Chancellor (International Strategy) of ANU, Prof. Kiaran Kirk, Dean of ANU College of Science, Associate Professor Sasha Mikheyev, Associate Dean of ANU College of Science (International), Prof. Jong Chow, Convenor, Photonics programme, ANU Research School of Physics, Associate Prof. Linda Stals, Associate Director (Education) of ANU Mathematical Sciences Institute, Associate Prof. Alexey Glushenkov, ANU Research School of Chemistry, Dr. Benjamin Schwessinger, Senior Lecturer of ANU Research School of Biology, Mr. Jay Poria, Manager of International Relations and Partnerships and Mr. Arthur Xu, Regional manager of International Relations and Partnerships from ANU College of Science were all present at the event both online and offline. About 40 candidate families from Shandong Province came to the campus to attend it. Meanwhile, it was live streamed via Xinhua News Agency and telecasted via Weihai Evening News Media. The total number of viewers exceeded 7000.
The presidents from both universities delivered speeches first. Prof. Sally Wheeler introduced the general situation of Australia National University and the city of Canberra where ANU is situated. Besides, she dwelt on the "3+1+1" Model established by both universities. Prof. Liu Jianya introduced Shandong University and JSC. He welcomed the prospective students to Shandong University.
Then the deans from both sides made speeches. Prof. Kiaran Kirk introduced the cooperative educational model and the newest development of ANU College of Science. Prof. Lv Guangshi introduced the advantages of the Chinese-foreign cooperative educational institution, enrollment and employment prospects. Sasha Mikheyev mainly introduced the ANU faculty, academic achievements, world ranking, the requirements and advantages of the “3+1+1” Model.
The professors and academics from the four subjects of ANU College of Science introduced respectively the characteristics and advantages of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics as well as the future career orientations. To help the candidates and their parents understand deeply the life and study in JSC, excellent student representatives of JSC were invited to share their harvest and growth in the past two years and their trust in and support for JSC.
2021 Open day is a terrific promotion for both Shandong University and Australian National University jointly enhancing international cooperation in higher education. It has further stepped up the mutual exchanges and cooperation and played a boosting role in the enrollment, publicity and promotion of JSC.
