On 10 June, Shandong University, Weihai held a ceremony to launch 2022 “Overseas Study Experience” event and pre-departure training session of “Safe Study Abroad” by Ministry of Education at Linglong Auditorium. Prof. Liu Jianya, Vice President of Shandong University and President of Shandong University, Weihai, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Prof. Xia Lidong, Vice President of Shandong University, Weihai presided over the ceremony.
Liu Jianya extended his congratulations to the students who are going to study abroad. He pointed out that Shandong University, Weihai is to build itself into an open and internationalized campus as a new highlight to become a world-class university and continuously promote the internationalization of students, teachers, curriculum and scientific research, enrich the supply of high-quality international educational resources, and provide the students with more international learning opportunities. He hoped that the students will have the motherland in mind and make China’s voice heard globally and tell China’s stories well when they study abroad. They will aim high and study hard so as to become outstanding talents with international vision and competitiveness. They will help each other, keep safe and return to serve the motherland after finishing their studies abroad.
Chen Xiaowen, 2019 Cohort biological sciences major student from SDU-ANU Joint Science College, spoke as a student representative. She expressed her determination to cherish the precious opportunity to study abroad and study hard with a down-to-earth attitude, demonstrating to the world the good spirit of Shandong University students. At the ceremony were also played recorded welcome messages from leaders of Hanyang University and Australian National University respectively, as well as exchange students currently at Sungkyunkwan University and Oxford University. At the end of the ceremony, Liu Jianya and Xia Lidong presented pre-departure souvenir bags to the students.
Following the ceremony, the 2022 training session of "Safe Study Abroad" by the Ministry of Education kicked off. The session, themed “Telling Chinese Stories Well and Promoting Patriotism”, was sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the MOE, organised by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of the MOE and co-organized by Shandong University, Weihai. The colleges and universities in Shandong province attended either onsite or via live stream. Kong Haiyan, Director of the International Office, delivered an opening speech at the session presided over by Liu Liang, Deputy Director of the International Office. Experts and scholars from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peking University, Shandong University and Dulwich International Security Group including Shan Qingyang, Li Tonggui, Tian Luojian, Fu Hui and Yu Peili, etc. gave vivid lectures on minimizing risks, overcoming frequently met problems and scientific research steps and skills while studying abroad.
The leaders from Student Affairs Office, International Office, School of Northeast Asia Studies, School of Mechanical, Electrical and Information Engineering and SDU-ANU Joint Science College, together with the students who are going abroad for further study this year were present at the session.
