A delegation led by Lv Guangshi, Executive Dean, the SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC), Liang Fengjun, Party Dean, JSC, and Gao Jun, Director, Office of Assets and Laboratory Administration, SDUW visited Westa College, Southwest University and Swinburne College, Shandong University of Science and Technology (SDUST) from 27 February to 1 March to open up their eyes and mind and boost cooperation with the colleges through in-depth exchanges and close communication. Some of the staff from JSC and University Facilities Services also went in company.
At Westa College, the delegation was first shown around the college building with good hardware conditions and IT facilities. Then at the meeting Lv Guangshi expressed his thanks to the hosts for their hospitality and sharing of their successful experience, and he introduced JSC briefly. He said that Westa College has rich experience in conducting the joint degree programmes and a strong internationalised atmosphere. Its advanced hardware and software facilities provide a useful reference for JSC’s future development. Wang Jing, Party Dean, Westa College gave a brief overview of the college and expressed her hope that the two colleges will step up exchanges and mutual learning to upgrade education. Zhao Yufang, Dean shared good experience and practice in preparing for the evaluation on the institution by the Chinese Ministry of Education. Besides, she said that Shandong University is a well-known and prestigious university nationwide with a long history and fine traditions, and JSC also enjoys a good reputation. In the new context, there is much room for close exchange and cooperation between the two colleges to explore a path for better education quality. Deputy Party Dean Teng Chao and Vice Dean He Xing introduced their work on student and academic affairs respectively.
At Swinburne College, Lv Guangshi and Liang Fengjun received a warm welcome by Jia Changxiang, Deputy Party Secretary, SDUST, Jinan and Swinburne College. Liang Fengjun made a general introduction to Shandong University, Weihai and JSC, and the both sides had a thorough discussion on issues like the institution’s organisation, party building work and student management. Lv Guanshi hoped that both sides will boost mutual communication to raise education quality and standard since the two colleges are facing similar problems and challenges. Jia Changxiang then briefly introduced SDUST, Jinan and Swinburne College and also looked forward to more exchanges and interactions between the two sides.
Fan Mingqu, Deputy Director, Management Committee and Director, Office of Academic Affairs and Scientific Research, SDUST, Jinan; Vice Dean, Swinburne College shared his opinions and practice in teaching workforce building, teaching quality control and infrastructure building, etc. He hoped to enhance communication and cooperation with JSC to make contributions jointly to the cause of China’s opening up of higher education in the new era.
