On 5 June, 2023 SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC) held the 4th Coffee Time activity in 2023, themed Pre-departure Seminar for the 2020 cohort students going to ANU for further study in Room 107, Dianzi Building. Mr. Arthur Xu, Regional Manager, International Relations and Partnerships – STEMM, ANU College of Science; ANU College of Health & Medicine; ANU College of Computing, Engineering & Cybernetics, and Ms. Zoe Zhao, Director, Student Affairs, AEMG were invited to attend online. Prof. Chang Xiaomei, Vice Dean, JSC attended in person and delivered a speech. Teachers from the academic English teaching group and the 2020 cohort students who are going to ANU for further study participated in the activity hosted by the English teacher, Zhou Junxia.
In her speech, Chang Xiaomei hoped that the 2020 cohort students would continue to pursue their dreams in ANU and show the best of Shandong University students to the world. Then Arthur Xu gave a detailed introduction to food, clothing, accommodation, and transport in ANU and Australia as well as pre-departure, itinerary, orientation week on campus. He also advised them to familiarize themselves with the related policies and regulations as well as cultural differences between China and Australia in advance and to start getting all the paperwork ready for entering Australia as early as possible to ensure a smooth transition into the brand-new environment abroad. Ms. Zoe Zhao added other things worth noting when studying overseas, such as visa regulation, traffic routes, curriculum etc. based on the experiences of the first group of JSC students studying in ANU. In the Q&A session, the guests responded to all the students’ questions patiently on faculty-student exchanges, accommodation, and transportation etc. and offered specific solutions to each individual student in an active atmosphere.
This event is aimed to give the students professional guidance in making a full preparation before departure to safeguard their studying and living abroad, and to improve the college’s work on providing good services to the students studying in ANU.
