On the evening of May 13, the SDU-ANU Joint Science College (JSC) held the 6th Culture Roam event in R. 107, Songxin Building, with the theme “Experience the Art of Bamboo Weaving and the Charm of Festivals". Faculty members from the Australian National University (ANU) and the college students participated in the event, hosted by Ma Wenxuan, head of the International Exchange Department of the JSC Student Union.

The event focused on traditional Chinese festivals. During the session, students presented in English the history and origins of festivals such as Qingming Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, using images and videos. They also introduced regional customs, cuisine, celebrations, and literary and artistic traditions. Then, teachers from ANU shared traditional festivals and customs from their home countries -- Australia, Brazil, and Portugal, enriching everyone's understanding of diverse cultural celebrations. Following the presentations, the host guided participants in a hands-on bamboo weaving activity to create round fans. After nearly an hour of crafting, over twenty uniquely shaped bamboo fans were completed.

Cultures have become richer and more colorful with exchanges and mutual learning. This event has provided a platform for sharing and discussing traditional festival cultures from China and abroad, encouraging students to actively engage in the preservation, exchange, and innovation of fine traditional Chinese culture. Moving forward, the college will continue to diversify the series of activity, promote the integration of holistic education, and support students in their academic and personal growth at Shandong University.
